About ECTAA

ECTAA is the Group of national travel agents’ and tour operators’ associations within the EU. It actively cooperates with European Union institutions and international organizations to ensure that their interests and special requirements are taken into consideration.

ECTAA was founded in 1961 at Bad Kreuznach (Federal Republic of Germany) by the national associations of travel agents and tour operators of the 6 founding Member States of the Common Market. Other national associations joined ECTAA with the successive enlargements of the European Union.

ECTAA now represents the national associations of travel agents and tour operators of 27 EU Member States, of 2 EU accession countries as well Switzerland and Norway, and 3 international Members .

03/06/2019 The European Travel Agents’ and Tour Operators’ Association is meeting for the first time in Łódź, Poland
ECTAA has been invited by the City of Łódź and the Łódź Tourism Authority to hold it semi-annual meeting in Łódź. This is the first time that ECTAA meets there. A delegation of more than 40 CEOs and Presidents of travel agents and travel agents’ associations will come to Łódź to discuss market and policy developments impacting on the travel trade.

27/05/2019 ECTAA files antitrust complaint against IATA
On Friday 24 May 2019, the European Travel Agents’ and Tour Operators’ Association filed a complaint against the airline trade association IATA with the European competition authority for breach of articles 101 and 102 of the EU Treaty. This follows years of failed negotiations with IATA to modernize the distribution programme and make it more balanced.

ECTAA considers that the directive proposal does not provide sufficient safeguards to prevent abusive claims and will create an unbalanced environment where the right of the defence is clearly ignored.
